If you're not sure whether we really do know Bedford, let us tell you a bit about your town's general and potentially relevant traffic and accident facts.

Bedford is located in Middlesex County and is about 15 miles northwest from Boston. Bedford is 13.9 square miles and is 15 miles away from the ocean. Billerica, Burlington, Lexington, Lincoln, Concord, and Carlisle border Bedford at all points. The Concord River, the Shawsheen River, and the Vine Brook Rivers all flow through Bedford.

As of July 2009, there were 13,814 people living in Bedford. The population has grown almost 9.7% since 2000. The median resident age is 45.1 years old, which is higher than the Massachusetts state average. In 2011, the estimated median household income was $111,329, and the estimated per capita income was $50,505. The estimated median house value in 2011 was $525,578, which is significantly higher than the median house value estimated in 2000. Bedford has a low population density with 1005 people per square mile.

Bedford is located northwest of intersection I-95 and MA-4/MA 225. US-3, which is an expressway and MA 62 are two of the most important roadways in Bedford. A few MBTA buses service the town of Bedford. The Route 351 express bus service from Alewife is popular, but it only operates during the morning and evening weekday rush hour times.

The town of Bedford takes traffic control and traffic enforcement very seriously. The town has devoted funds and resources to ensure that traffic moves smoothly and to reduce serious accidents. For example, the town installed portable electronic “rate of speed” signs to deter drivers from speeding. The portable signs will collect data that will help the town analyze traffic flow.

The intersection between North Road and Routes 4/225 is one of the most dangerous intersections in Bedford. This intersection has been referred to as the “Renzo Intersection.” Numerous accidents occur at this intersection every year. Residents blame an NSTAR double pole, limited visibility, and unclear signs as the cause of a significant portion of these accidents. To reduce the number of accidents that occur at this intersection, the town has stripped the road and has added a flashing yellow light. The town is also considering removing the NSTAR double pole in the near future.

Although Bedford works diligently to ensure that its residents are safe from traffic accidents, car accidents do occur within the town limits and its residents are injured in accidents throughout the state. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle or pedestrian accident, it is important that you assess your legal rights as soon as possible. We are Mass Injury Firm, P.C., Boston Personal Injury Lawyers representing clients in Bedford and across the state with their personal injury cases.
