Stryker Rejuvenate & ABG II Hip Implant Recall Lawsuit

While the majority of hip implants last up to 20 years, Stryker's Rejuvenate and ABG II implants are failing in under five years as a result of fretting and corrosion. The systems, which have both ceramic and metal components, place a metal femoral stem against a metal neck, meaning that regular wear on the junction between these two components can lead to metallosis. Metallosis is a condition in which metal debris builds up to toxic levels in the soft tissue surrounding an implant. Symptoms of metallosis include localized pain and swelling, difficulty walking, and rashes, which signify dying tissue. Some patients that received the Stryker systems have had to endure painful surgery to remove them.

These issues caused Stryker Orthopedics to voluntarily recall the systems in July 2012. This global recall follows its action in April 2012 to voluntarily recall the Rejuvenate system in Canada. If you or a loved one have received a Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II implant and are concerned about the implications to your health, consult your doctor immediately.
